Today should mark the first day of work for removing the exterior signage from the Ulverston Library building, according to the Westmorland and Furness Council.

The building has been closed since September 2023, after issues were discovered regarding the electrical system during routine checks. The library was temporarily relocated to an upstairs room in The Coro (with lift service to meet DDA compliance) and then made more permanent in early 2024.

As for the original library building, the Council is still reviewing options for re-use of the site, and says that the structure is not currently suitable for operational use. Most of the interior fixtures of the building have already been removed and relocated.

While the exterior signage finally comes down, the inauguration plaque will be covered and protected.
